Terms of Use
Effective date: 6 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of ReceiptKit shown on its App Store / Google Play page ("we", "us") about using the ReceiptKit app ("the app"). By installing or using the app you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. How we handle data is explained in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
1. What the app does
The app lets you scan receipts, read them automatically (on your phone and with AI), check and edit the result, save the receipt and its photo on your phone, and search, export and share your receipts.
2. Your account and your data
- There is no account. Your receipts are stored only on your phone. You are responsible for keeping backups (the app offers a backup file you can save anywhere you like).
- Your receipts remain yours. You give us only the permission needed to process a receipt when you scan it (to read it and send the result back to you). We don't claim any rights to your content.
- If you lose or reset your phone without a backup, your receipts can't be recovered by us.
3. AI reading can make mistakes — please check
Automatic reading (on-device text recognition and AI) can be wrong or incomplete, especially with faded, crumpled, dark or blurry receipts. The app marks values it couldn't find or wasn't sure about in yellow, but you are responsible for checking the values before you save, share or use them — for example for taxes, expense claims or accounting. The app is a record-keeping tool. It is not tax, accounting, legal or financial advice.
4. Free plan and fair use
- The core app (saving, searching, exporting, backups) is free.
- By scanning a receipt or importing a PDF, you agree that its text (or photo) is sent to our server and to our AI provider (OpenAI) to read it, as explained in the Privacy Policy. It is not stored there and not used to train AI.
- You can turn AI reading off at any time in Profile → Settings → Privacy; without it you can still type receipts in by hand.
- AI reading includes a number of free scans, shown in the app (Profile → Plan). They are given once per installation; we may add more or renew them from time to time. The number may change; the app always shows how many you have left.
- If you use up your free scans, you can still type receipts in by hand, and everything else keeps working.
- To keep the service available for everyone, automated, excessive or abusive use may be limited or blocked.
5. Pro subscription (optional)
- Pro removes the limit on AI scans and includes exporting (PDF, Excel, CSV) and backup files. Plans (for example monthly and yearly) and their prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency, including any taxes the store adds.
- Payment is made through your Apple ID (App Store) or Google Play account and is charged when you confirm the purchase. The store's own terms for purchases also apply.
- Auto-renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless you cancel it. On Apple, cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends; on Google Play, before it ends.
- Free trial: if a plan includes a free trial (for example 7 days), you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Cancel or change plan at any time: in the app (Pro screen → "Manage or cancel subscription"), or in your Apple ID settings / Google Play → Subscriptions. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules; we can't issue them ourselves. Your statutory rights (for example EU withdrawal rights where they apply) are not affected.
- Restore purchases: if you reinstall or change phones, use "Restore purchases" with the same Apple ID / Google account.
- Price changes: if we change the price, the store tells you in advance and, where required, asks you to agree; you can cancel before it applies.
- Fair use: "unlimited" means normal personal and business use; automated or abusive use may be limited (section 4).
6. Support chat (optional)
The in-app chat is for questions about the app. Please be respectful and don't send passwords, card numbers or other sensitive data. We may limit or close the chat for spam or abuse. How chat data is handled is explained in the Privacy Policy.
7. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- use the app for anything illegal, or to create or manage fake or fraudulent receipts;
- try to overload, reverse-engineer, attack or bypass the limits of our service or server;
- upload content that isn't a receipt or that you have no right to process (for example someone else's private documents).
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the app reliable, but AI reading needs our server and an internet connection and may sometimes be unavailable, slow or change. We may update, change or stop features (including the free scan number). If we stop the app entirely, we'll try to tell you in advance so you can export your receipts.
9. Intellectual property
The app, its design and its software belong to us or our licensors. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app on devices you own or control, under these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from (Apple App Store or Google Play). Open-source components are used under their own licenses.
10. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't guarantee that the app is error-free, that AI results are correct, or that the service is always available. If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, UK or another country with mandatory consumer protection, your statutory rights (for example legal guarantees for digital content) are not affected.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost profits, lost data, or for decisions you make based on values read by the app (see section 3). Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Pro in the 12 months before the claim (zero if you use only the free app), or the minimum the law requires. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or under mandatory consumer protection or product liability law.
12. Ending use
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it (export your receipts first if you want to keep them). We may stop providing the service to anyone who seriously breaks these terms.
13. Apple and Google
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app. Apple and Google are not responsible for the app or for claims about it; we are. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
14. Future accounts and cloud backup
The app has no account today. If we add optional sign-in or cloud backup, we will add their rules to these terms before they are available, and you decide whether to use them.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they apply. If you keep using the app after that, the new terms apply.
16. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts. EU consumers can also use the EU's online dispute resolution information at https://consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu. Please contact us first — most problems can be solved quickly.
