## How it works

All amounts are in US dollars. Balance remaining = rent due for the period minus the payment recorded here, with a minimum of zero. If the payment exceeds the rent due, the difference is shown separately as an overpayment credit. Amounts are calculated in whole cents. No tax, late fee or interest is added automatically; a receipt records a payment, not a tax deduction estimate.

## Example: a partial rent payment

1. Example rent due: $1,200.00.
2. Payment received: $800.00.
3. Balance remaining: $1,200.00 − $800.00 = $400.00. The receipt says Partial payment.
4. If $1,250.00 was received instead, the balance is $0.00 and a separate $50.00 overpayment credit appears.

## FAQ

### Can I download a blank rent receipt template?
Yes. Choose Blank PDF to download a printable form with empty fields for the parties, property, dates, payment and signature. Your typed details are not included in the blank version.

### Can this generator record a partial rent payment?
Yes. Enter the rent due against this payment and the amount received. The receipt shows the remaining balance and says Partial payment when some rent is still owed. If earlier payments apply, use the unpaid rent charge before this payment and explain that in the notes.

### What happens if the tenant overpaid?
The receipt shows a zero remaining balance and a separate overpayment credit. It does not decide whether that credit should be refunded or applied to future rent; record the arrangement separately.

### Is a rent receipt the same as an invoice?
A receipt records a payment already received. An invoice requests payment. This generator does not collect money or verify that a payment has cleared.

### Does this template meet every state's rental laws?
No universal legal-compliance claim is made. US state and local requirements can differ. Check the rules that apply to the rental property and your lease before relying on a particular format.

### Are my tenant details saved or uploaded?
No. The form, calculations and PDF generation run in your browser. This tool does not save the entered details or send them to analytics. Download what you need before leaving or reloading the page.
