# Quote Template Generator

> List the parts of the fixed price, add the sales tax, and split the total into payments by percent. Each payment is worked out in cents and the last takes the remainder, so the schedule adds up exactly. This job quotes $8,957.00, valid for the days you set.

## How it works

Subtotal = the sum of the parts of the price. Tax = subtotal × the tax percent, rounded to cents. Quoted total = subtotal + tax. Each payment except the last = total × its percent, rounded to cents. The last payment = the total minus the earlier ones, so the schedule can never be a cent out. The percents should add up to 100; the page warns if they do not. The price is fixed for the scope described and stays valid for the days you enter.

**Payment schedule for the quoted total (example)**

| Payment | Share | Amount |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Deposit on acceptance | 30% | $2,687.10 |
| When the rough-in is done | 40% | $3,582.80 |
| On completion | 30% | $2,687.10 |

**Common ways to split a payment schedule**

| Job | Typical split |
| --- | --- |
| Short job | 50% on acceptance, 50% on completion |
| Remodel | 30% deposit, 40% at a milestone, 30% on completion |
| Long build | A deposit, then monthly progress payments by percent complete |

## Worked example: a bathroom remodel quoted at a fixed price with 6% tax

1. Price: labor $5,200.00 + materials $3,100.00 + permit $150.00 = $8,450.00.
2. Tax at 6%: $507.00. Quoted total: $8,957.00.
3. Deposit at 30%: $2,687.10. Rough-in at 40%: $3,582.80.
4. Completion takes the rest: $8,957.00 − $2,687.10 − $3,582.80 = $2,687.10.

## FAQ

### What is a quote?
A fixed price for a defined piece of work, given before it starts. Unlike an estimate, it should not change unless the scope changes in writing.

### How long should a quote stay valid?
Long enough for the client to decide, and short enough to protect you from price changes. Thirty days is common. The validity box prints the period on the quote.

### Should I include tax in the quote?
Show it clearly so the client sees the final number. Enter the rate that applies where you work. If tax does not apply, leave it at zero.

### How should I split the payments?
By milestones the client can see: a deposit, a point where a big part of the work is done, and completion. The percents must add up to 100, and the page shows each amount.

### What happens if the scope changes after I quote?
Use a change order. It records the new work and its price, so the quote keeps its meaning. The change order template on this site does that.

### Does the client have to sign the quote?
A signature is not always required, but it shows they accepted the price, the scope and the schedule. Both signature lines are on the PDF.
